Seafood lovers will want to head to Jesmond restaurant Lovage, after they announced that they are now in possession of one of the biggest fish to land in the UK.

The restaurant, which is located on St George’s Terrace, recently purchased a giant 113 kg halibut, which cost around £2000, which will be turned into “mouth watering meals”, for their diners.

The enormous fish was caught off the North East coast, and offered to the head chef at Lovage, Kleo Tabaku.

The fish has now been divided into 400 portions, which took the kitchen team two days to prepare, and will be incorporated into various dishes, given that it is “one of the most flavoursome fishes” according to Lovage.

Chef Kleo said:  “Halibut is a fantastic fish and whenever we have a dish with it on the menu it’s always very popular.

“So when we were offered this giant halibut we couldn’t turn it down, even though it has taken us a huge amount of work to prepare it.”

The fish will be used in various dishes, including being served with spinach, lobster sauce, sea veg and sweetcorn, as well as Lovage’s Sunday lunch menu, prepared with mussels, clams, smoked haddock, samphire and fish cream.

Kleo has ensured that there will be as little waste as possible, with the halibut bones also being used to make stock.
