Everton have sacked manager Frank Lampard after falling deep into Premier League relegation trouble.

The Toffees’ winless run extended to eight matches following the 2-0 defeat at West Ham United on Saturday. They sit 19th in the table, two points from safety.

As a result, Everton have parted company with the Chelsea legend - and the bookmakers are already taking bets on his successor.

Sean Dyche is the current frontrunner to take charge, nine months after leaving Burnley, where he spent 10 years as manager.

But narrowly behind Dyche is former Newcastle United striker and Toffees legend Duncan Ferguson.

The former Scotland international had two spells as a player at Goodison Park that spanned 10 years before joining as a coach.

He started out in the Blues’ academy and made his way up to first-team coach, including two caretaker manager spells in 2019 and 2022.

Ferguson left Everton in July to pursue his managerial ambitions but is tipped to make a swift return.

The 51-year-old made 41 appearances for Newcastle between 1998-2000 and scored 12 goals. His son, Cameron, is part of the Magpies’ under-21s squad.
