Newcastle United won’t be making any deadline day signings - but ‘a couple’ of players are likely to depart. That’s according to Eddie Howe who spoke to the media at the club’s Benton training centre this morning.
The Magpies have spent around £120million on first-team additions this summer on Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall. A further £7m also went towards signing Yankuba Minteh before he was loaned to Dutch champions Feyenoord for the 2023-24 season.

Hide AdHall’s arrival from Chelsea last week on an initial loan with an obligation to buy next summer, signalled an end to incomings.
“We knew when we signed Lewis [Hall] that we weren’t going to do any more business,” Howe said. “Obviously there was a crisis in terms of positions and we were able to add to that but Sven’s injury is one injury and we don’t think it’s too bad so we hope to get him back pretty quickly.
“Our squad depth is OK, we’re a lot stronger than we were last year in terms of numbers and that’s what the squad is for to cater for these injuries.
“The transfer window was very slow initially. During the summer months, there wasn’t a lot of action, I think it’s definitely quicked up closer to the deadline. For us, it’s just been the kind of window where we were able to get the targets in that we wanted and we’ve been quite settled.

Two deals that are expected to happen are outgoings. Isaac Hayden has undergone a medical at Sheffield Wednesday after his loan move to Luton Town fell through. And Jeff Hendrick could join the former Arsenal man at Hillsborough.
Asked about deadline day exits, Howe told NewcastleWorld: “I’m not too sure really. I know there is probably a couple of players that might move and a couple of young lads might move to get experience and develop their careers. But I’ll be focused on my preparations for Brighton.”
