Harrison Ashby has penned a farewell message to Swansea City after his loan spell from Newcastle United came to an end.

The 22-year-old moved to the Welsh club last summer but was restricted to just 16 appearances. Ashby missed 10 games between late November and early January because of a hamstring issue. Then, a fresh muscular injury meant he last featured onJanuary 30.

Reflecting on his time with the Swans, Ashby posted on Instagram: “A big thank you to everyone involved at @swansofficial , a club filled with incredible people, people who I’ve made friends for life and an unbelievable fan base, want to wish them the best of luck for the future🦢❤️ #YJB”

Newcastle signed Ashby from West Ham United in January 2022 and he was tipped as a long-term replacement for Kieran Trippier, but that may have changed with Tino Livramento's £32million arrival last summer.

Ashby is yet to make a competitive appearance for United but did feature in pre-season. He scored in the 2-1 win at Rangers before featuring at the Premier League Summer Series against Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will decide the player’s next steps this summer, which is likely to include another loan spell.

Speaking previously about Ashby, Howe said: "He’s certainly made improvements since he’s joined us."He’s had a couple of hamstring injuries initially, which set him back. He’s training, he’s doing well. He’s certainly a player we believe in for the future."
