Kieran Trippier has been the subject of a potential £13million move to Bayern Munich in the January transfer window

Newcastle United are refusing to budge on their “not for sale” stance regarding Bayern Munich target Kieran Trippier, according to reports. The transfer window took a surprise turn over the weekend when the Bundesliga champions made an approach for Toon talisman Trippier. Any suggestions of a loan move were swiftly rebuffed, with Newcastle keen to keep their on-field captain.

Bayern aimed to add another Englishman to their growing contingent after signing Harry Kane and Eric Dier. Trippier would have been the third Three Lions international and former Tottenham Hotspur man to join their ranks in recent months.

There were claims that Trippier was open to the move but did not want to demand a transfer from St James’ Park. Bayern tried their luck again with a £13million bid 33-year-old but Newcastle, in no mood to negotiate, rejected the offer.

It is understood that the Bavarians are now set to call time on their pursuit for Trippier - with Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano insisting the deal is “off”. Pressure is building at the Allianz Arena following Bayern’s 1-0 home loss to Werder Bremen on Sunday.

That defeat leaves them seven points adrift of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who are undefeated after 18 games. The German champions could renew their interest in Paris Saint-Germain right-back Nordi Mukiele. Bayern have pursued the 26-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, all month about a potential loan move. An option-to-buy clause of around £35million has been mooted for the summer.

Sky Sports Germany claim Thomas Tuchel is upset as he was “convinced” Trippier would be a perfect fit for Bayern. The defender has experience in abundance, having represented England, Atletico Madrid, Spurs and Newcastle at the highest level.
