Bruno Guimaraes’ new contract at Newcastle United is reportedly close to being announced.

Newcastle United have reportedly sealed an agreement with Bruno Guimaraes over a new two-year contract extension.

The 25-year-old scored during the Magpies’ recent 8-0 win at Sheffield United appeared to declare he was staying during his celebration before kissing the club crest.

United head coach Eddie Howe has stayed tight-tipped over the situation. Asked when a deal could be announced, Howe said on Friday: “You might know more than me, I don’t know. I’m not involved in that. I’m focused on so many games and that’s taken care of by other people. Hopefully. I will hear before you, but maybe not.”

Howe added: “I think for any player the contract is important because you want stability. You want the player to enter training and games without thinking about their future, that’s any player not just Bruno, you want them just thinking about football.

“I’m taking everything off the pitch away from them. Personal issues they may have, contract issues, the football is the most important thing. If any player trains and plays to the best of their ability they are only going to receive good things off the back of that. So fingers crossed we can reach a conclusion.”

Guimaraes has been pivotal to the Magpies’ success since joining from Lyon for £40million in January 2022. He has made 66 appearances and scored 11 goals during a period where United have from fighting Premier League relegation to qualifying for the Champions League and reaching their first cup final in 24 years.

The Brazil international is said to have attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea but will commit his future to Newcastle, who face Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park tonight.
