Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has provided an injury update on Sven Botman, Callum Wilson and Joelinton.

After both scoring in the Magpies’ 8-0 win at Sheffield United last Sunday, Wilson and Botman were left out of the squad for the 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The pair were assessed ahead of today’s 2-0 win against Burnley but their absence continued. Howe hopes to see Wilson return next week but has ruled Botman out until the November international break, which follows after West Ham United next Sunday.

“Callum’s got a very minor hamstring problem,” said Howe. “We hope we’ll see him before the international break but there is no guarantee.

“Sven has a knee problem. I don’t think we will see Sven before the international break but hopefully, we’ll see him very quickly after.”

Meanwhile, Joelinton added to United’s injury woes. The Brazilian was introduced as a substitute in the second half but lasted just two minutes.

“It looks like a hamstring and that’ll be a huge blow if we lose him,” Howe confirmed. “But we’ll wait and see.”

Newcastle host Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night having recorded a third consecutive Premier League win against the Clarets.

“We anticipated a tough game. Burnley are a really interesting team, Vincent has done a great job and we knew we had to be really good today because they play a very open style but it’s a dangerous thing if you’re not perfect on your press.

“You have to deliver your game plan well and we did, probably after the first 10 minutes. We recovered from a slow start and deserved to win.”
