The latest Newcastle United transfer news headlines as as Eddie Howe’s side continue to be linked with potential January recruits.

The month of September is coming to an end as summer signings from across the Premier League have settled in at their new clubs and began making their mark.

That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from turning though and there is already plenty of talk about potential January moves with Newcastle United once again featuring prominently. The Magpies, who faced Burnley at St James Park in their latest Premier League clash earlier today, made plenty of big moves before the summer window shut last month and could very well make a few more in the new year if the right players are available.

One man who could fit in well with the way that Eddie Howe wants his side to play is Arsenal and England’s Emile Smith-Rowe, and they may very well be presented with the opportunity to sign him in January. According to a report from 90min, the 23-year old’s future in North London remains uncertain as he continues to be on the fringes of Mikel Arteta’s first team.

The three times capped England midfielder made his first start for the Gunners in almost 500 days this week as they beat Brentford 1-0 in the EFL Cup. It is claimed that the Croydon born star could push for a January move in order to increase his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2024 European Championship finals in Germany.

With that in mind, three Premier League clubs are said to be ‘keeping tabs’ on the situation involving Smith-Rowe. Newcastle are on and the others are Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Villains are understood to have previously made ‘concrete’ attempts to sign the player. With his contract running until 2026, it is reported that he may be allowed to leave on loan for the second half of the season. That may mean Newcastle becomes a less likely destination if the Magpies are once again competing alongside the Gunners in the top four.
