Newcastle United are among the Premier League clubs to have been linked with the Swedish sensation.

Roony Bardghji’s hopes of securing a major European move this summer have been dashed after he tore his ACL in training.

A stellar breakout season at Danish side Copenhagen has resulted in transfer interest from across Europe. Born in Kuwait, Bardghji moved to Sweden at a young age and had been on the cusp of a senior call-up.

The 18-year-old - capable of playing on either wing - has bagged 11 goals across all competitions this campaign, including an 87th minute winner against Manchester United in the Champions League in November.

His performances for Copenhagen have generated speculation about a potential move to the Premier League with Newcastle United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United among the clubs linked. Meanwhile, the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus Napoli and PSV Eindhoven have reportedly shown an interest.

However, a move away from Denmark is in doubt with Bardghji ruled out for nine to 12 months.

"We all feel for Roony, and everyone in and around the club will do everything we can to help him get back on the pitch again," says Copenhagen sporting director Peter Christiansen. “Right now he needs to take it easy to process what has happened, but we all know him as a dedicated and deeply serious footballer who we know will come back even stronger."

Head coach Jacob Neestrup added: "Right now our focus is to help Roony and being good leaders and teammates so he can get all the support he needs.

"He is in the best hands with our medical staff, and we know that he will work hard with his rehabilitation and showcase his great talent when he is ready again."
