Newcastle United player ratings v Burnley: 8/10 ‘machine’ & ‘silly’ 7/10 as Magpies claim 2-0 win

Newcastle United 2-0 Burnley player ratings: Magpies claim a third successive Premier League win.

Newcastle United claimed a third consecutive Premier League win with a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Burnley at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe, without Callum Wilson and Sven Botman through injury, made eight changes from the Carabao Cup win over Manchester City in midweek as Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Elliot Anderson, Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes returned to the starting XI.

Burnley controlled the opening stages but a stunning goal by Almiron - his second goal in as many games - put the Magpies in front. Howe’s side weren’t at their fluent, although did have chances to extend their lead through Alexander Isak and Anderson.

Isak did find the scoresheet in the second half when Gordon was fouled in the box. The Swede stepped up to send James Trafford the wrong way and wrap three points, which moved United up to 8th in the Premier League table.
