Newcastle United v Chelsea early team news: £60m doubt as 16 ruled out of Premier League clash

Newcastle United v Chelsea early team news: Two doubts as 16 players ruled out of Premier League clash.

Newcastle United return to Premier League action following the two-week international break with Chelsea the visitors to St James' Park this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Magpies lost 2-0 to AFC Bournemouth last time out in a game where their injury crisis came to a head. Already without 12 senior players, United lost Miguel Almiron to injury during the match, while Fabian Schar and Sean Longstaff picked up knocks.

While a couple of players are expected to return against the Blues today, United boss Eddie Howe remains without a host of senior players.

The visitors, too, are also missing some key players as they look to build on their last two results, where they beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 and played out a 4-4 draw with Premier League and European champions Manchester City.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are hoping to bounce back from their South Coast disappointment and claim a moral-boosting three points ahead of Tuesday's crunch Champions League clash in Paris.
