The SIX Newcastle United players knocking on the first-team door for Southampton
Jeff Hendrick
Could the Irishman be knocking on the door for a Premier League return? It would be a surprise. However, Hendrick did return one of his most impressive performances since arriving, against his former club.
Playing as one of United’s No.8s, the former Burnley man’s breaks between the lines were impressive - and his slick passing helped the Magpies progress at will on the night.
His miss was a shocker, mind.

Hide AdA physical show as the Magpies’ main focal point, the Brazilian put in a real No.9 performance, despite changing the number on his back to seven.
He held the ball well, brought others into play and was a real asset in a forward sense for Steve Bruce on the night.
Another, though, whose miss was unforgivable in the second period.
Sean Longstaff
It could be argued his deep-lying midfield role doesn’t suit, however, Longstaff looks determined to prove his doubters wrong.

Javier Manquillo
A rampaging performance down the right, with a solid defensive show, too, is likely to have Bruce thinking of change down on that flank.
Jacob Murphy has been one of United’s breakout players of the last 12 months, but has looked woefully short in the opening two top flight games.
The Spaniard is certainly a safer, more conservative option in the role.
Ryan Fraser

Hide AdA bright display with some excellent deliveries off the left must have given Bruce food for thought.
The Scotland international has flattered to deceive in black and white, but looks to be up for a first-team battle this season - and looks ready to show his true quality on Tyneside.
Jamal Lewis
One of the toughest jobs in this Newcastle United team would be to replace inspirational Matt Ritchie at left wing-back - but that’s exactly the task facing for Norwich man Lewis.
His quick feet, ability to beat a man and link up with Fraser will have done him no harm in midweek, mind.
