New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to three of Gateshead’s restaurants, cafes or canteens, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

• Rated 5: MHA Communities Gateshead West at Community Lounge, Boltons Bungalows, Chopwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on January 19

• Rated 5: Enfields Restaurant at Gateshead College, Quarryfield Road, Gateshead, Tyne And Wear; rated on January 18

• Rated 5: Birtley Community Association at Birtley Community Centre, Ravensworth Road, Birtley, Chester Le St; rated on January 16

It means that of Gateshead's 261 similar establishments with ratings, 219 (84%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
