Road closures: five for Newcastle drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Newcastle will have five National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

Drivers in and around Newcastle will have five National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And one of them is expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing a holdup of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

A69, from 8pm November 27 to 6am December 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 West Denton Interchange, one lane closed in each direction for bridge repairs.

A1, from 8pm November 26 to 6am December 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A696 westbound, Kenton bar roundabout to Newcastle airport, carriageway closures and lane closures for reconstruction/renewal works.

A1, from 8pm April 10 2021 to 6am October 19 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 74 Scotswood to junction 79 North Brunton, carriageway closures for major Project carriageway widening.

And a further two closures will begin over the next two weeks:

A1, from 8pm December 4 to 6am December 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 77 exit slip road Lane closure for Horticultural works.

A69, from 8pm December 4 to 6am December 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 eastbound, North Walbottle, carriageway closure for maintenance works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
