But which club has the biggest net spend this summer and how do Newcastle United compare to their Premier League rivals?

Here is everything you need to know.

What is net spend?

The term net spend is used to describe the difference between money earned from player sales and the money spent on new recruits.

Net spend is particularly important in the modern game due to the importance of Financial Fair Play regulations which are essentially used to stop clubs from spending more than they are earning in terms of revenue.

Who has the highest net spend in the Premier League?

Arsenal have the biggest net spend of any club in the Premier League and Mikel Arteta’s side have brought in a number of big name signings to try and bridge the gap between themselves and champions Manchester City.

The most notable of those acquisitions was club record transfer Declan Rice who joined the Gunners from West Ham for a fee of £105m.

Overall Arsenal have spent a total of £203.5m on new recruits and they have made around £40.8m on player sales.

This gives them a total net spend of £162.7m.

Which clubs have the highest net spend?

Manchester United have also splashed the cash this summer under the guidance of Erik Ten Hag and they have a total net spend of £135.2 million.

The Red Devils are joined by Bournemouth who boast a net spend of £89.9m as they kick off a new era under the guidance of Andoni Iraola.

Newcastle United have the fourth biggest net spend of any Premier League club at £88.6 after the signings of Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes.

But they chose to sell one of their most high profile players in Allan Saint-Maximin to help balance the books.

Chelsea are the biggest spenders in world football and they have splashed over £290m on new recruits including a British record fee for Moises Caicedo.

However, the Blues have also sold a number of big earners with N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy and Mason Mount all moving on to pastures new.
