Christmas in Newcastle 2022: opening times for banks & building societies, including Lloyds and Santander

If there are two stressful moments in the run up to Christmas, it’s the last minute dash to the Post Office to get those final presents sent and getting the last bit of banking done before branches close. Thankfully, with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day occurring over a weekend, the majority of branches in Newcastle will remain unaffected during the weekdays.

However, a number of banks, including the big four of Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest and HSBC will remain closed on Christmas Eve, in keeping with their regular hours of operation. Those same banking firms will also remain closed on December 27 2022 in observance of Christmas Day falling on a Sunday.

Cash machines during this period will remain unaffected but as regular banking services will halt over the festive period, there is also the possibility that these may run out of certain notes as secure cash collections will also be affected by seasonal shift patterns.

Internet and mobile banking services will also be affected; though transferring money between personal accounts can still go ahead, any transactions that take place over Christmas Day through to Boxing Day (observed) will be delayed due to seasonal operational hours too.

Barclays have confirmed that all their branches in Newcastle will close from Christmas Day 2022 to December 28 2022, encompassing the bank holiday in lieu due to Chrstimas Day falling on a Sunday. Barclays branches are also closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
