Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director at Lumo, said: “At Lumo, we’re proud to set new standards in sustainability. From our popular on-board menus offering plant-based products, eradicating plastic bottles onboard to our commitment to the development of colleagues and encouraging customers to take the train over plane or car, we’re delighted to be recognised with this award from the North East Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.”
As an open-access rail operator, Lumo utilises spare capacity on the East Coast Main Line to offer enhanced choice for cost and carbon-conscious customers. This means that the five trains each day, each way between Edinburgh and London are operated at no cost to the tax-payer and offer competitive fares to customers.

Lumo recently announced ambitions to extend some services to Glasgow as well as proposals to bring its popular low-cost services to a new route between London, Manchester and Rochdale. These proposals are currently under review by the rail regulator.
