How to book Covid-19 jab in Newcastle, who is eligible, where to get Autumn booster

Millions of people across England and Scotland will soon be offered the chance to have their autumn Covid booster jab.

This comes amid a drop in infections, but health bosses predict that over both autumn and winter, more people will catch Coronavirus and flu.

The NHS director of vaccinations and screening, Steve Russell, said: “The NHS will begin vaccinating those who are most vulnerable to Covid from next week, with the autumn campaign kicking off in care homes from Monday and 4 million more people will be invited to come forward later in the week.

“NHS staff are gearing up once again to deliver these vaccines at speed, rolling out jabs at more than 3,000 sites across England in order to provide the maximum protection ahead of winter.”

NHS England has said that health teams are to visit care homes and private homes, and will vaccinate around 1.6 million residents, staff and those who are housebound as we enter the second booster phase.

And from 7 September, around four million people will be able to book their booster, with appointments being available from 12 September.

Who is eligible for the autumn booster?

The most vulnerable will be prioritised, as well as care home staff.

Groups eligible are for the Autumn booster jab are:

  • Adults aged over 50
  • People aged 5 - 49 years old with health conditions that put them at risk (including pregnant women)
  • Care home staff
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • Carers aged 16 - 49
  • Household contacts of people with weakened immune systems

How do I book my autumn booster?

Those who are most vulnerable to the virus will be contacted themselves, and when the booster vaccine extends to around four million more people on 7 September, you can book your jab online via the NHS.

In the coming weeks, the booster programme will extend to around 26-million across England and Scotland, including over-50s.
