Covid in Newcastle: areas where coronavirus infections rose the most across Newcastle and Tyne and Wear in the last week

Cases rose in almost half of Tyne and Wear’s neighbourhoods in the latest seven-day period

Weekly coronavirus cases have been creeping up across the UK since the start of August, with the rolling seven-day average rising from 268.9 cases per 100,000 people at the start of the month to 296 at the latest count.

And much of Tyne and Wear is no exception.

Analysis by NewcastleWorld shows Covid cases rose in 67 out of the city’s 145 neighbourhoods in the week to 13 August compared to the week to 6 August.

And no neighbourhoods saw fewer than three cases in the latest week.

The neighbourhoods are middle super layer output areas (MSOAs), small geographic units used in government statistics.

North Tyneside was the city council area with the highest infection levels over the seven days to 13 August, at 312.2 cases per 100,000 people.

That was followed by Newcastle with 289.4 and Gateshead with 270.9.

Here are the neighbourhoods across Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland where Covid cases rose the most in the seven day period.
