9. The Plimsoll Line, Redcar
The Plimsoll Line in Redcar is named after British politician Samuel Plimsoll, commemorating the life-saving invention of the Plimsoll line on ships. Plimsoll himself lived in Redcar for a short while, in a house which later became a Marks & Spencer’s. Plimsoll’s name is also given to the shoes, which were named after him given their resemblance to the Plimsoll line. | Google Maps
10. The Forum, Hexham
The Forum in Hexham is a former cinema, which it takes its name from. The cinema first opened in 1937, built on the site of another cinema, the Gem Palace. The Forum operated until 1974 before reopening in 1982. A lot of the features from the cinema are still a part of the Wetherspoons pub. | Google Maps
