"I've been waiting for this for years" - New restaurant Mowgli opens in Newcastle to rave reviews

Newcastle city centre has a new Indian restaurant - and it has seen a good start!

Mowgli opened on Nelson Street - one of the roads surrounding Grainegr Market - on Friday, March 14 and its forst weekend has already been a success if social media is anything to go by.

The Indian street food chain has a series of restaurants across major cities in the UK including London, Bristol, Glasgow and Liverpool but now has a spot in the North East too.

“I ‘ve been waiting for this for years and years” explained Nisha Katona, the company’s owner, in a social media post on the site’s first day.

“It is an absolute honour to take this place, I couldn’t believe I was allowed to inhabit it” she adds on a video posted to Instagram.

The site is designed with inspiration from her grandparents’ home in India in a similar way to many of the brand’s other sites across the nation.

“Amazing” said one social media user, adding “I loved it like every other Mowgli we’ve done!”

Another said “Welcome to Newcastle, Mowgli! Great food, lovely surroundings and super staff. Highly recommended.”

In addition to the regular menu, the Newcastle site also has a street food sharer menu and feasting menu in addition to full gluten free and vegan menus.

As part of a house charity campaign started by the company, each of the sites has £1 added to each bill with all money going to the Mowgli Trust to support charities. Funds from the North East restaurant will be donated to Children’s Cancer North.
