National Pizza Week 2022: the top five pizzerias in Newcastle according to Tripadvisor

A week long celebration of the doughy, cheesy disc cuisine called pizza; just no arguments about pineapple this National Pizza Week, please.

Today marks the first day of National Pizza Week, running from November 21 to November 28 and paying tribute to the popular disc-shaped cuisine. The week is organised by the Pizza, Pasta & Italian Food Association that represents the interests of all those businesses involved with the Italian food industry.

In their press release announcing 2022’s celebration, National Pizza Week organisers state that the week long event “celebrates pizza in all its cheesy, gooey, glory, supporting retailers and food outlets to make a strong comeback and providing a much-needed boost to the economy.”

“Throughout the week, we’ll be throwing the spotlight on pizza and encouraging consumers, suppliers and businesses to celebrate one of the UK’s favourite foods. Why not treat yourself to a piping hot slice of pizza and join in the fun this National Pizza Week.”

Every year UK consumers spend over £5 billion on pizzas, National Pizza Week have revealed in their “Pizza Facts” section of their website. Of these, over 80% are purchased from restaurants and takeaways, with more than a quarter delivered piping hot to consumers at home.

If you were curious what the nation’s favourite pizza topping is, National Pizza week also revealed America’s favourite topping; pepperoni. While their least favourite pizza topping is anchovies, though households around Newcastle will have to decide what to add to their pizza on their own accord.

While households and friends debate what to have on their pizza, or if pineapple does belong on a pizza, Newcastleworld has taken to Tripdadvisor to make one of your decisions easier; these are the five best Pizzerias in Newcastle, according to the review website.

4: La Famiglia

  • Tripadvisor Rating: 5/5

What reviewers said: “This is a hidden gem that must be tried. Staff were great but the food was outstanding. Some excellent specials but the pizzas are superb. The best tuna and garlic pizza I’ve ever had was the long gone silver giraffe in Ryton. This is one of the few restaurants that also does a tuna and garlic pizza and it was fantastic! OMG how I missed having a good quality tuna and garlic pizza with as requested a hint of chilli.”
