Opening date and menu revealed for Above - Newcastle’s newest rooftop cocktail bar

ABOVE rooftop, the all-weather bar on the roof of Newcastle’s Vermont Hotel has started to take bookings ahead of its long-awaited opening. Here’s how to book and what’s on offer.

ABOVE Rooftop, the long-awaited all-weather rooftop bar and restaurant offering a panoramic view of Newcastle’s Quayside has finally revealed its opening date.

The venue will open to the public on Friday, August 20, with table bookings open now.

Where is ABOVE Rooftop located?

The bar is located on top of Vermont Hotel, with ABOVE Rooftop having opened in June 2021.

Above has a panoramic view of the Tyne Bridge and Newcastle - Gateshead Quayside and describes itself as ‘unlike anything the UK has to offer’.

Images of the venue show glitzy interior design which owners say is ‘on par with the world’s best’.

What’s on the cocktail menu at ABOVE rooftop bar?

ABOVE Rooftop offers a variety of classic cocktails, wines, spirits and champagne.

Cocktail prices start at £8.50 for a Mojito or Caipirinha, and go up to  £10 for a Margarita or Mai Tai.

Red and white wine are both available also, with bottles starting at £22 for a Leefield Station Sauvignon Blanc, and rising to £40 for a bottle of Sancerre, Les Collinettes.

The red wine list includes Tekena Merlot (£24 a bottle), Amarone Della Valpolicella (£32 a bottle), or Fendi Salentini 125 Primitivo Del Salento (£30 a bottle).

Champagne is also on the menu, with glasses of Veuve Clicquot Brut NV starting at £14.25, or a bottle for £85. Prosecco Brut is also available at £6.50 a glass or £32 a bottle, along with Laurent-Perrier Rosé (£130 a bottle) or Dom Perignon Vintage Brut (£240 a bottle).

Bottled spirits are also available, with bourbon and scotch prices starting at £120 for Sour Mash No. 7 and rising to £550 for bottles of Lagavulin, Mortlach, or Singleton.

What’s on the food menu?

ABOVE Rooftop’s menu offers a range of dishes, from sushi to tacos.

Two appetisers are available, with a variety of nuts available on the Nuts About Above choice (£8.50) and hummus for £7.50.

Their signature “Be Good” bowls include Harissa Spiced Chicken (£11.50), Greek Lamb (£10.50) and Buffalo Mozzarella (£9.50).

For sushi, chicken or Ebi katsu are available, along with quack quack rolls too. All sushi dishes are £8.

Tacos, start from £8.50 for the charred sweetcorn and feta tacos, and £9.50 for either a chipotle chicken taco or ultimate beef taco.

Side dishes include French fries, sweet potato fries, or rocket, olive and parmesan salad, each priced at £4.
