As Tuesday, February 1 marks the Lunar New Year here on Tyneside and across the world, NewcastleWorld is on hand to run you through the best Chinese takeaways in the city to aid your festivities.

The Lunar New Year is also known as the Chinese New Year and is celebrated by nearly 2 billion people worldwide.

It marks the beginning of a year whose months are Moon cycles and is particularly celebrated in countries within East and Southeast Asia.

Whether or not you are a Tiger yourself, there's plenty of reason to recognise the festivities and many people in Newcastle will be eating a Chinese meal tonight to mark the occasion.
