In pictures: Memories of the Grainger Market in the 1980s and 90s

The Grainger Market is a Newcastle staple, but what did it used to look like?

The Grainger Market first opened its doors in 1835 and since then it’s become one of Newcastle’s most-cherished places.

A maze of food, drink and shops, the indoor market is a must-visit for anyone visiting the city.

The photographs were taken by well-known local amateur photographer Jimmy Forsyth (1913-2009), who enjoyed spending time in the market talking to traders and taking their pictures.
