International Coffee Day is here, so what better way to celebrate the day than at one of Newcastle’s top coffee shops.

The day falls on Saturday October 1, with the United Kingdom ranking seventh for the most coffee consumed in the world, according to World Population Review.

And, Statista has said that the cafe latte is the number one choice of coffee in the UK, with Nescafe the most popular brand.

The Staiths Cafe

Located in Gateshead, this coffee shop ranks number one in Newcastle with a 4.5 star rating from over 350 reviews.

Despite serving great coffee, people have branded this place the ‘benchmark for paninis’ as well as a great setting, overlooking the River Tyne.

One review from August 2022 says: “Delicious food and good value for money. Friendly service and quick even though it was busy when we ordered”.

This cafe is world’s away from your usual one, as it is a cat cafe with many furry friends casually roaming around as you sip away.

One review from August 2022 says: “This was the first time we’d been to a Cat Cafe & my cat obsessed daughter loved it. She had been missing our cat whilst we’ve been on holiday & since going to Mog on the Tyne she has said it was the highlight of her holiday.”

Despite being known most for their sweet treats, ranking at number two for dessert shops in Newcastle, their coffee is still great.

A review left in April 2022 says: “Fave coffee shop in Jesmond! Cakes are fresh and delicious and there’s such a diverse range to choose from. Coffees are also lovely, a little pricey but you are definitely paying for what you get. Staff are always friendly.”
