Singer-songwriter Keiran Bowe has reflected on what he has achieved in his career so far, and how his last visit to St James’ Park was one he won’t forget in a hurry.

Originally from Gateshead, Keiran told NewcastleWorld about his career, but firstly about the stadium visit.

“Hearing my music echoing around the walls of St James’ was surreal,” Kieran said.

“I honestly cannot describe the feeling. There may have been a few tears.”

Time at University had a big impact on Keiran, and it was from here where he was able to push on with a career in music.

Keiran said: “University opened up a whole new world for me, there were all these new people who had similar interests to myself.

“I was lucky enough to meet a bunch of lads who were more musically talented than myself, we formed a band and it kind of went from there.

“Two years down the line I went ‘Han Solo’ and I already knew enough about the industry to know where to get started with that.”

On describing his sound, Keiran said: “I like the lyrics to stand out, I’m writing about my past and what I’ve learnt in such a short space of time but at the same time, they are lyrics that I think people can relate to.

“It’s then about creating a sound around those lyrics, either a catchy riff/beat people can move along too or just chords that allow for people to be able to sing words back.

The North East region and Newcastle in particular has had a big influence on Keiran, as he added: “There’s times I’m writing songs and I’ll envisage a place in the North East where this has either happened or where I would see it happening.

“I think we’re lucky in the sense that we have such a vibrant and beautiful city.”

His musical influences often take people by surprise, as Keiran said: “My main musical influence is Marc Bolan. The man was a genius, way ahead of his time.

“I get told stories of being younger waddling along to ‘I Love to Boogie’ and I think that’s always stuck with me.

“Aside from himself it’s just bands/ singers I have grown fond of over time, Kings of Leon being at the forefront of that, Caleb’s vocals are just something else, other than that we’re looking at The Black Keys, Bowie, Alex Turner, Amy Winehouse….I could be here all day.”

2021 was a rough year for many in the industry, but Keiran was able to achieve a lot, saying: “I’ll not talk about what has been the talk of everyone’s lives for a good two years.

“The back end of the year was just surreal, seeing ‘Hinny’ do what it did, working with mgmt. for the first time, playing the shows we played. I was a bit taken back.

The year ahead is looking exciting for Keiran, and he laid out his aims.

“To keep the ball rolling. Build on the hype from the end of the year and release more tracks. We’re really, really excited about the prospect of the year ahead.
