1964 was a changing time for Newcastle.
Outside the city, terraced housing in the city’s West and East Ends were beginning to be torn down to make was for high-rise flats and modern housing.
The city centre was a very different place too.
Here we have 11 amazing photos of life in Newcastle 60 years ago.
Thanks to Newcastle Libraries, we have snaps of the Lion & Lamb before its demolition and the old Newcastle Breweries offices.
1964 was the year Harold Wilson became Prime Minister and Top of the Pops first aired on the BBC.
Closer to home, the 1964/65 football season saw Newcastle United finish champions of the Second Division after finishing eighth the year previously.
