NSandI Premium Bonds December draw: how many people were winners in Newcastle and how to enter

December has brought about thousands of new winners of the National Savings and Investment (NS&I) Premium Bond prize. Two lucky winners in the Newcastle area took home £100,000 each, with another scooping £25,000.

Newcastle was fairly unlucky in November, with no one taking home more than £25,000. Through the Premium Bond scheme, you are entered into a monthly prize draw where you can win between £25 and £1 million tax free. The bonds were first introduced back in 1956, and are now owned by over 20 million people in the UK.

When your bond is all set up, you receive a bond number for every £1 invested. This means that for example, if you invest £20, you will receive 20 bond numbers. In short, the more you invest, the more chances you have of winning.

Since 1994 and as a direct result of the premium bonds monthly draw,  more than 400 people have become millionaires. Since 1957, total payouts of the tax-free prizes have totalled £23.6 billion.

How to enter

To enter, purchase a premium bond. Premium Bonds can be bought by registering an account on the NSandI website and filling out an online form or by calling 08085 007 007 to request a form which can then be filled out and sent back to NSandI. Once a bond is purchased, you are automatically entered into a monthly prize draw.
