The warm weather may feel like a lifetime away at the moment, but the thoughts of dog owners are swiftly moving to where they can walk their four legged friends on longer, brighter evenings.

Restrictions on when dogs can be on some beaches across the Northumberland coast mean any coastline walks will need to happen before the Dog Exclusion Order comes into force.

From Monday, May 1 no dogs will be permitted on selected beaches along the North East coast including those in North Tyneside and South Tyneside.

The order comes to an end on Saturday, September 30 when dogs can return to all beaches across the region.

Which Northumberland beaches will dogs be banned from over the summer months?

The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has said two beaches along the Northumberland coast are impacted by the UK Dog Exclusion Order. These are:

  • The section of beach at Newbiggin by the Sea from the breakwater at Church Point to the beach access from the promenade at Sidney Crescent
  • The section of beach at Blyth from the beach access at Beachway to the beach access at the southern end of the Links Road car park

The only restriction comes at Beadnell Bay, south of Seahouses due to local wildlife. The site is under seasonal restrictions due to nearby breeding birds and signs are in place around the area explaining the restrictions.
