We could all do with a local staycation now and again.

Nights in front of the fire with a hot drink can be the ideal way to spend time as the nights close in, and a staycation can be one of the best ways to relax before the hectic nature of the Christmas period catches up with us.

So whether you’re looking for a romantic break or a small family weekend away, there are some stunning places in the region where a cosy cabin and a hot tub are the best ways to spend a night or two away from it all.

Their listings cater for between two and six people with holiday cottages also available and the site covers the majority of the North East, from the Northumberland coast across to Hexham and Kielder.

Staying in Kielder, the Waterside group have a series of lodges which are ideal for a winter getaway. With stunning views over the famous man-made reservoir and dog friendly options for your four legged friends groups of between four and six people can enjoy a true winter experience with log cabins and scenery for miles.

A series of holiday cabins north of Morpeth are also proving popular, with Tripadvisor users having given numerous lodges five stars in a small area just off the A1.

Situated within Felmoor Holiday Park, the site has plenty of options for large and small groups with one of the picks of the bunch being Farne Lodge. From £105 per night, holiday makers have a sunken hot tub in a wooden decking area, a cosy inside area in addition to two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The Felmoor Park site also has a restaurant for those who don’t fancy making their own dinners.

Elsewhere on Tripadvisor, our eyes were drawn to the Hideaway Cabin near Felton. The lodge which holds up to six people has a great Scandinavian look which is perfect for Christmas in addition to a private hot tub for those chilly winter evenings.
