Newcastle is renowned for its drinking culture. So much so that people travel from all over the country to experience our nightlife.
But so many pubs and bars means its often difficult to know where’s worth your time. Especially if you’re like me and prefer wine over anything else.
Now, I love a pub, but over 60% of the time the wine on offer doesn’t hit the spot. Don’t get me wrong, it gets the job done and the pub offers something no bar ever could. But I do love a bar, especially when there’s so much incredible wine on offer.
So here I’ve put together a list of the 11 best places to grab a glass of wine (or bottle) in Newcastle- cheekily including two spots just across the Tyne in Gateshead.
All of this is based on my own opinion as someone who’s spent way to much time and money on wine in Newcastle.
We have bars, restaurants and cafes located across the city in the centre, Heaton, Jesmond and the Quayside for you to peruse and I hope they give you some new inspiration.
Have a look, and let me know if I’ve missed anywhere out or any new spots I need to try.

1. House, Heaton
House is a fairly new addition to Newcastle's wine scene. Located on Heaton Road, the natural wine bar has quickly become one of my favourites. | @housebarheaton Photo: @housebarheaton

2. Axis, Gateshead
I know, not Newcastle! But, located on the other side of the High Level Bridge is Axis. Serving up craft beer and amazing wine, it's not one to miss. | Axis Photo: Axis

3. Tyneside Cinema, City centre
There's nothing better than going for a glass of wine after watching a film at the Tyneside. You can choose from sitting in the main Tyneside Bar Cafe or Vicolo just next door. | Google Maps Photo: Google Maps

4. The French Quarter, City centre
The French Quarter boasts an amazing wine list and incredible small plates. The perfect date night spot. | GM Photo: Google Maps
