Although it may not feel like it right now, we’re firmly in the depths of Summer.
We’ve been dreaming about living it up in the sun all winter, so now’s the time to enjoy all Newcastle has to offer in the warmer months.
But sometimes it can be difficult to decide what to do when the sun finally makes an appearance.
Will you resort to your tried and tested days out? Or do you fancy doing something a little bit different?
With the Euros about to start, I’m sure many of us will be heading straight for the beer gardens- especially those with big screens.
But what about when the football isn’t on?
I’ve compiled a list of my favourite things to do in Newcastle on a sunny day.
There’s nothing I love more than going to play tennis in one of the city’s many parks. Most of the tennis courts have just had a makeover too- making it all the more enjoyable.
You also can’t go wrong with taking a trip to the beach. If you have the energy, make the effort to go up to the Northumberland Coast for an incredible change of scenery. If you fancy somewhere off the beaten track, Budle Bay is a particular highlight.
Here’s the best places to spend a sunny day in Newcastle.
1. Visit the Ouseburn
There's nowhere like Ouseburn on a sunny day. With so many places to catch the sun, it's the perfect place to grab a drink or enjoy some food when the weather's great. So many options too. The Ship keeps the sun well into the evening, but the Cluny steps are a great place to sit too. Don't miss out on the Cumberland Arms and Free Trade Inn too. | Google Photo: Google Maps
2. Spend the day in Exhibition Park
There's so much to do in Exhibition Park when the weather's good. You could have a picnic or barbeque on the grass, how about a spot of tennis on the newly refurbished courts? And of course there's Wylam Brewery on the other side of the lake if you fancy a pint. | SONY DSC Photo: SONY DSC
3. Have a pint at By the River Brew Co
If you're up for a stroll across the Swing Bridge to Gateshead, By the River Brew Co is the perfect place to sit when it's hot. It's always got a great atmosphere with amazing scenery, food and drinks. | Google Photo: Google
4. Explore Jesmond Dene & Heaton Park
Jesmond Dene and Heaton Park are the perfect places to enjoy the sun in Newcastle. After a stroll you can enjoy a picnic on the Heaton Park hill, or even at Italian's at Sambucas. | Adobe Photo: Adobe
