A new study into the UK’s most haunted universities has found that the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne is the 10th most haunted institute in the country. That is according to work The Knowledge Academy undertook to provide their list of universities.

In their research into the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, the study stated “Newcastle’s oldest university is surrounded by no less than 731 listed buildings and 25,744 gravestones. With a final score of 7.18, Newcastle University provides a worthy conclusion to our top 10.

“Whether it’s the harrowing ghost of Bob Crowther roaming Tyne Theatre or the eerie sounds of the flower girl occupying Castle Keep, Newcastle is a city packed with supernatural folklore.”

The Knowledge Academy analysed the number of cemeteries, gravestones, listed buildings (and how long they’ve been listed), as well as counts of paranormal reports within two miles of each university campus. From that information, they boiled the numbers down to an easier percentile and then a rating out of 10 for each category, followed by the final “spooky rating.”

The University of Liverpool managed to top the overall list, with a spooky score of 8.73 out of 10, based on the age of the institute and the average sum of gravestones nearby. Although it did not take the top position for most paranormal reports - that honour goes to the University of Exeter with a perfect paranormal score of 10 out of 10. Sorry freshers.
