What Newcastle is best known for by the rest of the world, from Greggs to Sting
What does everyone else thinks of when they think of Newcastle?
Newcastle is an amazing place to live. But to those of us who are lucky to live here, most days we only think of the normal: our routines and where we like to go.
To other people, Newcastle is only known for its most iconic and famous parts- the stars we’ve produced, the beautiful architecture and TV shows.
So, here is what the Toon is best known for by everyone else.

1. Ant and Dec
Geordie royalty Ant and Dec met on the set of Byker Grove in the 1990s. The duo then went from strength to strength and are now permanent fixutures on British television. Always the first people non-Geordies bring up.

2. Greggs
Everyone knows Greggs is a Geordie delicacy. Loved up and down the UK, the first bakery was opened in Gosforth in 1951. Greggs, you will always be famous. Photo: BEN STANSALL

3. Football
It’s no secret, Newcastle is football mad. Geordies are brought up watching Newcastle United and can never quite seem to shake their passion for the club. Best fans in the world.

4. Cheryl
Born in Byker, Cheryl is one of Newcastle’s biggest icons. From her days in Girls Aloud to her stint as a judge on X Factor, Cheryl’s Geordie accent has been one of her most distinctive features.
