11 dramatic photos as weekend anti racism protest takes over Newcastle

Saturday saw protests take over the city centre following a series of similar events across the country.

After a midweek event which saw counter protesters head to the West End to support The Beacon, which was considered to be a potential right wing march target, protests returned to the city this weekend.

After it was believed a further right wing protest would take place in Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, a counter protest was announced to take place earlier in the day.

Starting between 9am and 9:30am, the counter protest was initiallty due to take place near Grey’s Monument, but was moved to Newgate Street.

This didn’t stop the people of Newcastle turning up to show their solidarity with groups who have been targeted during riots in other parts of the country such as Sunderland, Blackpool and more.
