14 photos to take you back to 1990 in Newcastle and North Tyneside

Let’s rewind to Newcastle in the early 90s.

Here we have a collection of amazing photos of Newcastle and the woder North East in 1990.

The year was one of major changes in the UK with the 1980s coming to an end and a new decade beginning.

The major industries that dominated the North East throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries had begun to decline or disappeared, leaving the region to adjust to new technologies, new forms of employment and a new way of life.

The nation also fell in love with Gateshead born Gazza at Italia 90 over the summer while November saw the resignation of Margaret Thatcher.

The imposing Newcastle law courts were also completed on the Quayside in 1990. For Crown Court cases it replaced the earlier Moot Hall near Newcastle Castle.

Here we have 14 amazing photos of Newcastle throughout the year, thanks to Newcastle Libraries.
