17 retro photos capturing life in Newcastle in the 1950s

Let's see what life was like in Newcastle in the 1950s.

Here's a selection of 17 photos showing life in Newcastle in the 1950s.

It was the decade Newcastle United won the FA Cup three times, beating Blackpool in 51, Arsenal in 52 and Manchester City in 55. Amongst the photographs in this collection is one depicting the team's celebratory procession through the city after their back-to-back win in 1952.

Thanks to Newcastle Libraries we also have a selection of photos of Newcastle streets from that decade- showing just how much has changed in the city in 70 years.

The old industries used to characterise much of the city centre, especially along the Quayside as seen in the photo of the Baltic Flour Mill before it was transformed into an art gallery in 2002.

So let's take a journey back to the 1950s through these incredible photographs.
