The 1970s was a very different time for Newcastle.
While David Bowie topped the charts, Malcolm MacDonald began his career at Newcastle United and still to this day remains one of the Toon's favourite strikers.
At the beginning of the decade, Tyneside's industries characterised the life of the city. But as the decade waned so did the coal mines and shipyards.
Although recognisable, the streets of Newcastle looked very different 50 years ago.

Buildings lining Dean Street were in a state of disrepair and Northumberland Street was still a busy road. But Fenwick still stands in the same spot today, as does the towering Tynemouth Priory.
