1978 was the year the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge was built as part of the developing Metro system, connecting Newcastle and Gateshead. Although, the Metro didn't officially open until 1981.
But the 1978-79 season saw Newcastle United finish eighth in the Second Division after being relegated the previous year.
What else do you remember about life in the city during the last years of the 1970s?
We have an incredible collection of photographs here chronicling life in Newcastle in 1978 and 1979, thanks to Newcastle Libraries.
St James' Park looked very different to the stadium today and the city looks to have been in a period of change with the construction of the Metro.
Take a look and let us know what you recognise.
