Ant and Dec announce surprise cooking career move to prank fans for April Fools

The Geordie duo previously announced they would be taking a break from presenting - thankfully, as part of an April Fools joke.

Iconic geordie presenters Ant and Dec fooled fans into thinking they were launching culinary careers as part of an April Fools prank. 

The duo, met on Newcastle-based children's drama series Byker Grove as youngsters, and have since went on to have an incredibly successful career as primetime TV presenters, on the likes of I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here, Britain’s Got Talent and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, among many more television shows and specials.

Despite getting their start in acting, it is presenting that the pair have flourished in, winning The NTA Award for Best Presenter 22 times in a row, as well as picking up many awards for the shows they have presented. 

However, Ant and Dec who are both from Newcastle, managed to trick their fans into believing that they were set to take a hiatus from presenting, in order to begin a brand-new career in cooking. 

After launching digital series Taste Mates last year, where the duo discuss and create various dishes with a comedy twist, it was revealed that Ant and Dec would be focusing on cooking full-time leaving their presenting days behind them.

In an online article, which has since been revealed as a joke, it was reported that Ant and Dec would release a recipe book as well as open up their own restaurant. 

The article read: “Ant & Dec have announced today that they will be taking a hiatus from their television commitments to kickstart their culinary careers. The Geordie duo have been making waves in the food world since launching their smash hit digital series Taste Mates, last year and have decided to explore this new opportunity fulltime. As well as signing a deal for a tell-all recipe book, the pair have announced plans to open a pop-up restaurant offering diners the chance to experience their groundbreaking cooking firsthand.”

However, taking to the joint Instagram account today (Monday, April 1), Ant and Dec revealed to their fans that the announcement was part of an April Fools prank.

In the post, Ant and Dec shared a black and white image of themselves wearing their Taste Mates apron alongside the caption: “Ant and Dec announce surprise career move”, as well as a screenshot of the fake article and quotes from the duo themselves. 

The post was captioned: Happy April Fool’s Day! Don’t worry... we won’t be subjecting you to our cooking anytime soon 😂”.
