Geordie presenting duo Ant and Dec are back on our screens once again, as the much-loved reality television series I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here returns.

Last night (Sunday, November 19), Ant and Dec returned to present from the Australian jungle on ITV, as we were introduced to the stars of 2023, which included the likes of JLS singer and presenter Marvin Humes, politician Nigel Farage, and Britney Spears’ sister Jamie-Lynn, among others.

In the first episode we saw the celebrities take on different tasks in groups, which included Nigel Farage, Josie Gibson and Nella Rose looking for stars in the Australian outback, Grace Dent, Sam Thompson, Fred Sirieix and Danielle Harold at the dizzying heights of a skyscraper, while Marvin Humes, Jamie-Lynn Spears and Nick Pickard took on a bushtucker trial in the jungle.

But before we got to see the celebrities in action, as they attempted to find stars which are used for meals for the camp, Ant and Dec provided the viewers with the hilarious commentary that they have given us for the past 23 series of the popular show.

Within the first four minutes of the first episode of the year, Ant and Dec made a joke at the expense of North East city Sunderland, which for sure would have gotten a laugh from fellow Geordies watching at home.

They said: “For the first time in I’m A Celebrity history, we’ve dropped our first three celebrities in the middle of the Australian outback.

“In case you’re not familiar, it is a barren, hostile, environment barely fit for human habitation.

“Imagine Sunderland but hotter!”

This isn’t the first time Ant and Dec who were born and raised in Newcastle, and are huge fans of Newcastle United, have made a light-hearted joke towards Newcastle’s rivals Sunderland.

Last year’s I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here saw Sunderland-born footballer Jill Scott appear and go on to win the show, and the pair continuously bantered back and forth with Jill about Newcastle and Sunderland’s rivalry.

I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
