ASDA, Sainsbury’s and M&S opening hours in Newcastle this New Year

Stores are open at differing hours over the holiday weekend

Big chain supermarkets are set for early closures and spotty opening hours over the next couple of days to coincide with the New Year festivities.

New Year’s Eve is not a traditional bank holiday, and most stores are set to maintain their regular opening hours.

But stores are set for a brief day of change to mark the start of the new year with some irregular opening hours.

Sainsbury’s is set to observe three days of shorter opening hours.

On New Year’s Day and Monday, January 3, stores are open from 8 am to 8 pm. Sunday sees the store open for the usual 10 am to 4 pm.

ASDA are open from 10 am to 5 pm on New Year’s Day and a usual shift of 10 am to 4 pm for Sunday.

The ASDA Gosforth store currently offers a “quieter hour” for shopping between 2 pm and 3 pm, Monday to Thursday.

While the Benton-based ASDA is usually open 24 hours, the store will close at 5 pm and 4 pm on New Year’s Day and the day after.

Tesco will be open from 8 am to 6 pm on New Year’s Day, and will resume its usual 6 am to midnight opening hours from Monday.

For those shopping at M&S, you’ll not be able to on New Year’s Day as the store is closed. Sunday sees the store open from 11 am to 5 pm.

The day after observes holiday opening hours with 8 am to 7 pm, and it’s not until Tuesday that normal opening times resume.

Waitrose is set to close on New Year’s Day but opens up the New Year with regular hours. 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, and 8 am to 8 pm on weekdays.
