Christmas is fast approaching, and there is no better way to get into the spirit than going to watch a Christmas Light Switch On. These events are usually more than just turning on lights, with festive entertainment and special guests also a part of the evening.
Newcastle’s annual Christmas Light Switch On will be taking place next Tuesday, November 15 from 6pm on Grey Street. Metro Radio’s top presenters Steve and Karen will be hosting the event, as they have done in previous years. There will be various forms of festive live entertainment, from games, competitions and performances to an appearance from Santa Claus himself! Up and coming North East music star, Tilly Lockey will also be performing at the event.
Gateshead’s leisure and shopping hub, Trinity Square will be hosting a Hollywood themed Christmas Light Switch On on Thursday, November 17 at 4pm. Excitingly, Trinity Square has not booked a special guest to turn on the lights and are holding a competition instead - the winner being invited to switch on the lights.
South Tyneside will have three different Christmas Lights Switch On across the borough. The first will take place in South Shields’ Market Square, outside of the town’s library The Word. It will be held on Wednesday November 23 at 5pm. The second will be held in Jarrow, outside of the town hall, on Friday November 25 at 4pm. The third will be in Hebburn, on Monday November 28 at 4pm, at Fountain’s Park. Various forms of festive entertainment will be at each switch on.
