Newcastle motorists who are driving home for Christmas or popping out for a bit of last-minute shopping will have three road closures to watch out for this week.

And two of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

A1, from 6am December 11 2021 to 6am January 11 2022, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 77, 24hr lane closure on exit slip road for barrier defect.

A184, from 8pm September 7 2020 to 6am January 29 2022, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A19 northbound and southbound, Downhill Lane, carriageway closures for interchange upgrades.

A1, from 8pm April 10 2021 to 6am December 23 2022, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 74 Scotswood to junction 79 North Brunton, carriageway closures for major Project carriageway widening.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
