Former navy serviceman labelled a monster after raping two women he met on dating apps Tinder & Plenty of Fish

A "monster" who raped two women he met on dating sites has been put behind bars.

Former navy serviceman Daniel Holland had the "gift of the gab" and quickly won the victims' confidence but would switch like "Jekyll and Hyde" and attack then act as if nothing had happened.

Newcastle Crown Court heard after meeting one woman on Plenty of Fish in the Dorset area he subjected her to a violent attack and vicious rape ordeal.

He was then bailed to live in the north and met up with a woman in Wearside, who he matched with on Tinder and also brutally raped.

In between the attacks on the two women, Holland had sex chat with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl but turned out to be a decoy set up to snare paedophiles online.

Holland, 39, of no fixed address, admitted two charges of rape and causing grievous bodily harm. He was convicted of attempting to have sexual communication with a child after a trial.

Judge Edward Bindloss today said Holland is a dangerous offender who poses a "high risk" to the public and jailed him for 12 years and seven months with a five year extended licence period.

Judge Bindloss said: "They were taken in by you and they trusted you.

"You were at first plausible and convincing. You shattered their trust."

Holland must abide by a sexual harm prevention order and sign the sex offenders register for life. He was also issued with lifelong restraining orders to protect the victims.

The court heard Holland, a former Royal Navy and Merchant Navy harbour pilot, was working in Essex when he met the first victim on Plenty of Fish.

The woman said he had a "Jekyll and Hyde" personality and "just switched" before he subjected her to a violent attack where he punched her and gave her a black eye then stamped on her back and broke her ribs in a violent attack. He also raped her during a separate incident.

In an impact statement she said: "Nobody deserves to be treated in this way. He doesn't deserve to get away with this.

"I will never be able to trust anyone again. He is a pathological liar.

"He turned out to be a monster."

In between the attacks on the two women Holland told a decoy child profile he wanted to sleep with her and spoke in explicit language despite being told she was just 13.

The court heard Holland was bailed to live in the north east of England, met his second victim over Tinder and raped her before "acting as if nothing had happened".

The woman said Holland had the "gift of the gab" when they met and she has been left "constantly on edge".

Susannah Proctor, defending, said Holland spent 20 years in the navy and has been working well in prison.

Miss Proctor said Holland is "shocked" by his own behaviour, which happened when he was abusing alcohol and added: "He does accept full responsibility for his action and is acutely aware of the harm his actions has caused the victims.

"He deeply regrets what he has done. He doesn't believe his behaviour is a reflection of the man he is or wants to be."
