Seven people were arrested following the early morning incident.

Northumbria Police has issued an update following ane incident in Newcastle city centre on Sunday morning which saw a man taken to hospital with serious injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.

Police received reports that a group of men were fighting on Grainger Street, near Slater’s menswear and the junction with Westgate Road at around 4am on Sunday, June 18.

A 20-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries while two other men, aged 21 and 25, also sustained injuries to the back and face during the altercation and were taken to hospital.

On the morning of Monday, June 19 Northumbria Police said seven people were arrested and they have all since been released on police bail.

Two men with injuries to the back and face have been discharged from hospital while the man with serious injuries remains in hospital.

Police enquiries remain ongoing.
