Police appeal for dashcam footage after 75-year-old dies in a collision in Morpeth

Northumbria Police are appealing to members of the public for dashcam footage after a 75-year-old man died following a collision in Morpeth.

Emergency services were called to the A196 at around 8.45pm on Wednesday, April 5, after receiving reports that a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian.

Both the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Northumbria Police attended the scene but despite the efforts of all involved, the man was pronounced dead.

The 75-year-old’s family has been notified and at being supported by specialist officers from Northumbria Police at this time.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with the driver of the vehicle remaining at the scene to assist officers with their inquiries.

Northumbria Police is asking anyone who might have witnessed the collision, or have dashcam footage from the area, to get in touch with them as soon as possible.

Sergeant Steve Armstrong of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department said: “This is a very sad outcome and our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.

“Our investigation is underway and we are working hard to establish exactly what has happened. We’ve spoken with the driver and a number of witnesses so far, but if anyone else is able to help, please contact us.
