Police appeal for information after man dies in Gateshead road collision
Shortly after 11.15pm on Monday, December 23, police received a report of a collision on High West Street.
It was reported that a black BMW 525d had been travelling westbound on High West Street, near the Regent Street junction, when – for reasons yet to be established – it struck a pedestrian who was walking on the road.

Hide AdEmergency services attended the scene where the pedestrian – Peter Douglas, 90, of Gateshead – had sustained life-threatening injuries.
He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries and on Wednesday he sadly passed away.
Mr Douglas’ next of kin are being supported by specially-trained officers.
The driver of the BMW remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.

Hide AdFollowing the collision, officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
On Friday, January 10, they have re-appealed to any witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Andrew McNally, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of Mr Douglas at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.
“Our investigation into the circumstances around the collision remains very much ongoing and we continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us.

“We are particularly keen to hear from those who have dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision which could assist our enquiries.
