Motel Mexicana is a brand-new venue set to open in the former Bijoux nightclub, bringing the flavour, sounds and atmosphere of Latin America to Newcastle.

The former nightclub on Mosley Street is undergoing a huge transformation to turn into the brand-new venue, which upon completion will offer four floors of entertainment, food, and drink as well as a place to stay.

The initial stages of the refurbishment will see  the ground and first floor of the premises turned into a Latin-inspired venue for food and drinks. This section of the refurbishment is said to be costing over £500,000.

The second stage of the transformation will see the third floor turned into a motel, consisting of one large, multiple occupancy bedroom. The motel can be booked for large groups wanting to host for a special occasion.

Finally, the fourth floor will be transformed into a roof terrace, with plans to install a retractable glass roof.

The concept for Motel Mexicana has been created by Nigel Holliday and Matt Smyth, the people behind one of the most successful clubs in Newcastle, Tup Tup Palace.

Holliday and Smyth have joined forces with Andrew McGuigan formerly of Saatchi & Saatchi for the brand-new business venture.

Holliday explained: “It’s something really new for Newcastle and we have brought all of our joint experience in creating places and events with the wow factor to Motel Mexicana.”

The trio are working together to create an exciting venue that they hope will attract people of all ages.

Smyth and McGuigan’s wives who are from Spain and Columbia are also on board to ensure that every aspect of Motel Mexicana is authentically Latin.

Motel Mexicana hopes to attract families during the day before turning into a nightlife spot in the evening.
